Work

Repeating:

every night sweep up the same floor,

looking at the clock.

No one knows

this is a performance art work,

looking for the next paycheck,

Till the time to

wait in line to punch the time card,

race out of the parking lot.

It’s too

bright and noisy to sleep all day.

Get up. Go back to work.

Repeating:

every day work on the same stuff,

passing time away.

No one knows

this is an important art work,

say it doesn’t pay to play,

Till the time to

wait to sink into a stupor,

rise up, stumble off to quit.

It’s too

dark and anxious to sleep all night.

Get up. Go back to work.

Work, mixed media, 2011, figure about 6” H standing up.
